The first change came in November 1982 when the purity of the coins was increased from .999 to .9999 fine gold. At that same time, a second change was made by adding the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins to the collection. The third big change early came in 1986 with the addition of these 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins.
The Royal Canadian Mint is the official sovereign mint of Canada. Founded in 1908, the mint now consists of a facility in Ottawa and a second location in Winnipeg.
