The RCM is famous for turning to the wildlife of the nation for inspiration in the design of its coin images. The Canadian Wildlife Series was among the first to popularize the nations wild creatures, and now a new coin series offers a new glimpse at some of the great creatures of Canada.
These 1.5 oz Canadian Silver Polar Bear and Cub coins are the third in the new 1.5 oz Canadian Wildlife Series from the Royal Canadian Mint. The first coin was released in 2013 and featured a similar image of a lone adult polar bear on the frozen tundra. The second coin, released in 2014, featured the arctic fox.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 to process the increasing volume of gold and silver coming from the Yukon Territories. Today it is one of the finest mints in the world, operating facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg.
