Description
Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins debuted in 1979 and the 2019 Gold Maple Leaf’s celebrate 40 years of production for the series. From 1979 to 1982, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf consisted only of a 1 oz coin. Fractional weights were initially introduced in November 1982 following an increase in the gold content of the coins.
The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 with a single coining facility in the federal capital of Ottawa. In 1976, a second facility was completed in Winnipeg to expand the capacity of the Royal Canadian Mint.
