Description
Cast silver bars are produced using some of the oldest, simplest production steps known to humanity. Silver is first melted down and then poured into prefabricated molds. These molds are made from heat-resistant materials and ensure a particular weight for the end product. Cast silver bars can be left in the mold to cool until solid or plunged into water at some point to speed up the process.
The Perth Mint was founded in 1899 and originally intended to serve as a third branch facility of the Royal Mint of England on the continent. Today, it is a wholly-owned entity of the government of Western Australia, and though it is not the official sovereign mint of Australia, its coins are legal tender.
