The Buffalo Silver Nickel was designed in 1913 by James Earle Fraser for the United States Mint. Fraser grew up in the Upper Midwest and his design was heavily influenced by the things he saw as a child. He would frequently follow his father for work. His father worked for the railroad and traveled across Minnesota and the Dakotas regularly.
Engravings on this bar include the word Liberty within the round portion of the obverse design. This side of the bar also includes the purity, metal content, and weight of the silver bar. The reverse includes the words United States of America and E Pluribus Unum within the round portion and has a cross-hatched design field behind that.
