Description
Historically speaking, the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle has swapped places with the 1/2 oz coin on a regular basis as the lowest minted coin in the series. For example, through most of the 2000s the 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle had the lowest mintage of the four, while the 2010s have seen the 1/2 oz coin fall to that position.
The Proof version of the famous American Gold Eagle coin collection was introduced in the year of 1986. The only fractional-ounce weight that was available was the 1 oz, but with the extension of the program in 1987, other ounces were added to the collection with critical acclaim.
